PSG midfielder Renato Sanches, 28, is poised to join Greek club Panathinaikos on a loan deal. This move comes as a surprise, as Turkish Süper Lig outfit Trabzonspor was widely considered the favorite to acquire the Portuguese international. However, according to reports from L’Equipe and RMC Sport, Sanches himself expressed a strong preference for Panathinaikos, leading to the Athenian side successfully securing his services.
Sanches recently returned to Paris after a loan spell at Benfica, where he made 21 appearances across all competitions last season. Despite his return, the midfielder was not integrated into Luis Enrique`s first-team squad and was instead placed in the club`s `loft` – a group of players deemed surplus to requirements and expected to depart before the transfer window closes.
His contract with PSG extends until 2027. Sanches initially joined the Ligue 1 champions from Lille in 2022, but he has since struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at the Parc des Princes, leading to this latest loan move in search of more playing time.
