Greek football powerhouse Panathinaikos is moving swiftly in its search for a new forward. With the expected departure of 25-year-old Fotis Ioannidis, the club has turned its attention to a prominent attacker from France`s Ligue 1 to fill the void.
The leading candidate on the radar of the esteemed Greek club is Mostafa Mohamed, 27, currently in his fourth season with FC Nantes. According to reports from L`Équipe, the Egyptian international is reportedly open to the prospect of a move to Greece. This interest is partly influenced by the fact that two of his former teammates from Nantes, Pedro Chirivella (28) and Alban Lafont (26), are now playing in the Greek league.
Mohamed, who was part of the Egyptian squad that finished as runner-up in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, has demonstrated a strong goal-scoring record, finding the net a combined 21 times across three Ligue 1 campaigns for Nantes. His current contract with the French side extends until 2027, making it highly improbable that Nantes would consider releasing him for a transfer fee less than €10 million.
FC Nantes has faced a challenging beginning to their current season, being among just four teams in the French top-flight that have yet to secure a single point after two matches. They have suffered consecutive 1-0 defeats against RC Strasbourg Alsace and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively.
