Leandro Paredes has concluded his second stint with AS Roma, confirming his return `home` to Boca Juniors. Across both periods at the Stadio Olimpico, the midfielder accumulated 135 competitive appearances.
Despite achieving significant international success with Argentina, including winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup and two Copa America titles, his club trophy cabinet features silverware primarily from his time at PSG, Boca Juniors, and Zenit St. Petersburg.
Leandro Paredes Addresses Roma Fans Upon Departure
The World Cup winner took to Instagram to share an emotional message with the Roma faithful.
“I`m not sure where to begin,” he wrote. “You were the very first to welcome me when I was just a youngster, offering me and my family the warmth we needed to feel settled, and indeed, we felt completely at home.”
“ROMA will forever be my second home. It holds the unique distinction of being both my first and my final club in Europe. While I am genuinely disappointed that I couldn`t lift a trophy with you, I depart with the certainty that I gave my absolute all for the club.”
“My hope is that I consistently conducted myself as a true professional and served as a positive role model for younger players, but most importantly, that I was seen as a good person.”
“Remarkably, two of my children were born in Rome, and all three of them share the passion of being Roma supporters.”
“The time has now arrived for me to make the journey back to where I always dreamt of returning – the club that resides deep within my heart. I am confident that the wonderful community of Rome and the devoted Roma fans will understand my decision.”
“A heartfelt thank you to the city of Rome and to AS Roma. You will permanently hold a place in our hearts, which will forever beat Giallorossi. I love you all.”
Paredes originally came through the youth ranks at Boca Juniors before making his initial move to Italy in 2014 with Chievo. His time at Chievo was brief, featuring just one appearance, serving mainly as a transitional phase.
He officially joined Roma in 2014. His first spell was interrupted by a loan spell at Empoli before he was sold to Zenit St. Petersburg in 2017. Following stints at Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, he returned to Roma in 2023.
His recent departure was facilitated by a prior understanding that allowed him to leave for a fee of €3.5 million, which Boca Juniors has now agreed to pay in full.
