Parma is currently maintaining a firm stance on the valuation of their promising young defender, Giovanni Leoni, setting his price at €40 million. This position holds even as prominent clubs such as Inter, Milan, and English side Bournemouth have shown interest and made proposals.
The 18-year-old centre-back demonstrated his capabilities during the past season in Serie A, featuring in 17 matches and scoring one goal. Notably, 14 of these appearances were as a starter, highlighting his integration into the first team.
Developed within the Padova youth academy, the club, known as the Ducali, has strong conviction that Leoni`s market value is set to escalate significantly. They believe this increase will occur once he consistently receives playing time at the top level of professional football.
With this belief driving their strategy, Parma is reportedly unwilling to decrease the asking price of at least €40 million. Sources indicate that even potential deal structures involving €35 million paid upfront plus an additional €5 million in performance-related bonuses have not led the club to lower their valuation.
It has been reported that Parma previously turned down an offer from Premier League club Bournemouth. This rejected proposal was understood to be in the region of €25 million, potentially rising by another €5 million through add-ons, significantly below Parma`s current demand.
Leoni: A Key Italian Youth Prospect
Within Serie A, the strongest interest in signing Leoni appears to come from Milan`s rival clubs, Inter and Milan. However, both Italian giants seem hesitant to commit such a substantial transfer fee for a player who, despite his appearances, is still largely considered an untested teenager at the very highest tier.
Adding another layer to the potential transfer negotiation, Parma has a commitment to Sampdoria, Leoni`s former club. As part of previous agreements, Sampdoria is entitled to receive a 10 percent share of any future sale fee for the defender.
