Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Declares Readiness Upon Marseille Return

Football & Cricket

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the 36-year-old football star, has officially rejoined Olympique Marseille, marking his return just a year after his move to Saudi Arabia. During a recent press conference, the Gabonese international emphasized his readiness for the challenges of Ligue 1, stating he is prepared both “mentally” and “physically.” He also shared that his decision to come back to the club was made “by the heart.”

A Personal Choice and Financial Commitment

“It’s true I had some very good offers not only from Saudi Arabia but two or three also in Europe. It was the choice of my heart,” explained the former Arsenal and Chelsea striker from Marseille’s La Commanderie training ground. He further elaborated on his dedication, adding, “Yes, I’ve made financial efforts to come here, but it’s what I want – to rediscover the stadium and the supporters. Last time, I experienced emotions that money simply cannot buy.”

Aubameyang also addressed any potential doubts about his fitness or form after his stint in the Saudi Pro League, reaffirming his preparedness for the upcoming season.

“I feel ready for the season; I’ve got a full season in my legs even if you (the press) think the level in Saudi Arabia is not the same. Personally, I’m ready both mentally and physically,” he asserted.

Second Chapter at OM and Lingering Ambitions

The veteran striker’s return to the Vélodrome comes on a free transfer, just one year after his impactful previous period in Provence. His arrival was met with an enthusiastic reception from OM supporters at Marseille Provence airport on Tuesday evening. Following this, he successfully completed his medical examination on Wednesday and was officially announced as an Olympique Marseille player for the second time last night.

During the 2024-25 season in the Saudi Pro League, Aubameyang demonstrated his scoring prowess by netting 17 goals in 32 league appearances for Al-Qadsiah. However, the seasoned forward evidently returns to Marseille with a clear sense of “unfinished business.” This move also signifies a notable second chapter for Aubameyang in Ligue 1, over a decade after his explosive breakthrough at AS Saint-Étienne. Between 2011 and 2013, he famously scored 37 goals for Saint-Étienne, even earning a silver boot in the 2012-13 season, placing him just behind Zlatan Ibrahimović.
