Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is reportedly on the verge of returning to Marseille, with negotiations reaching an advanced stage. The Gabonese forward must first finalize the termination of his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah.
He initially joined Marseille just last year after leaving Chelsea, signing a three-year deal. Despite a challenging season for the club marked by several managerial changes (Marcelino, Gennaro Gattuso, and Jean-Louis Gasset), Aubameyang was a standout performer. He registered an impressive 30 goals and 11 assists across 51 appearances, quickly becoming a favourite among the Vélodrome faithful.
After a successful season in Saudi Arabia where he maintained his strong goalscoring record (21 goals in 36 games), reports of his potential contract termination attracted attention from European clubs. Marseille actively pursued his return, and Aubameyang is understood to be keen on a move back to Southern France. OM has offered him a two-year contract, and discussions regarding the financial aspects are reportedly well underway.
Under the likely new head coach Roberto De Zerbi, Aubameyang could potentially provide depth for the attacking line. Marseille is preparing to return to the Champions League competition next season.
