Fiorentina coach Stefano Pioli confirmed his team`s strong motivation for their upcoming Conference League play-off against Ukrainian side Polissya, while also stating that Lucas Beltran was excluded from the squad due to ongoing transfer discussions.
Both legs of the tie will be held on neutral ground. The first match will take place at Tatran Stadion in Presov, Slovakia, on Thursday. Due to ongoing reconstruction at Florence`s Stadio Artemio Franchi, the second leg next Thursday will be hosted at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia.
Pioli Confident in Fiorentina`s Focus

During his press conference, Pioli emphasized the team`s inherent drive for the fixture. “If I needed to motivate my players for this, it would signify a very poor start to the season,” he stated. “This date has been marked on our calendars since early July, and we are fully prepared. We have put in diligent work and possess a clear strategy for how we intend to play. We recognize the immense importance of this preliminary round and securing European progression.”
He further cautioned about their opponents: “This is an opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities in Europe, and we understand that tomorrow`s match will be exceptionally challenging. Polissya is a talented team with an astute and well-prepared coach, demanding a top-tier performance from us.”
Beltran was notably absent from the squad traveling to Slovakia, amidst reports suggesting he is evaluating an €11 million offer from CSKA Moscow.
Pioli confirmed his absence, explaining, “He is at home due to ongoing transfer market developments.”

Fiorentina`s squad has seen significant changes over the summer and remains in transition, with more transfers reportedly on the horizon.
Acknowledging the need for adaptation, Pioli remarked, “Building team cohesion takes time, but we possess some highly intelligent forwards, and I am confident the optimal chemistry will emerge among them.”
The squad`s new additions, including seasoned players like David De Gea and Edin Dzeko, bring valuable experience to this crucial European challenge.
The coach concluded by highlighting their contributions: “They are two champions, in excellent form and highly motivated. They infuse a great deal of positive energy, and we undoubtedly anticipate significant contributions from them.”
