Brighton & Hove Albion has finalized the acquisition of Canadian forward Jonathan David from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. The deal is structured as a season-long loan, with an included obligation to purchase the player permanently for a reported fee of £22 million.

The 25-year-old arrives at the club having made 82 appearances for the Belgian outfit, registering 41 goals and providing nine assists since his arrival in 2024.

David began his professional career in his native Canada before moving to Europe. He also had spells in Croatia and the United States, followed by stints with two clubs in the Maltese Premier League. His journey continued with Estonian side Nomme Kalju before his move to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

The striker was a participant in four of Canada's five matches during the World Cup, coming off the bench in each. He notably scored during their 2-1 group stage loss to Switzerland.

Sporting director Mike Cave expressed his enthusiasm for the signing, stating, "We have been monitoring Promise for a considerable period. He is a natural goalscorer with exceptional physical capabilities and a proven scoring record."

"His international experience and exposure to European competition are expected to be highly beneficial this season.

"At 25 years old, he is entering his peak playing years, and we are eager to witness his continued development within our team environment."

Brighton is set to compete against Tromso in the Europa Conference League play-offs on Thursday, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00 BST. Their Premier League campaign will commence at home against Aston Villa on Sunday at 14:00.
