Defender Presnel Kimpembe, aged 29, has been conspicuously absent from Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League squad for the upcoming League Phase. This decision marks a significant development for the experienced French international.
Kimpembe`s limited involvement over the past two and a half years, largely due to a severe Achilles tendon injury requiring two surgical interventions, is a key factor in his omission. Although he made a return to the pitch earlier in 2025, he has struggled to regain a consistent place in the team under coach Luis Enrique. He has not featured in a single minute of play this season, highlighting his challenge in re-establishing himself.
It is understood that Kimpembe no longer aligns with Luis Enrique’s strategic plans at PSG, leading to the expectation of his departure from the club. According to reports from L`Équipe, the player is currently in discussions regarding a potential transfer to Qatar Sports Club. These ongoing negotiations, combined with his recent injury history and lack of match fitness, have ultimately led to his exclusion from the Champions League squad. Notably, Kimpembe is the only professional player from PSG’s main roster to be left out of their European campaign.
