Prior to the World Cup 2023, Sri Lanka provides an update on Hasaranga’s health. Wanindu Hasaranga, a great spinner for Sri Lanka, is still hoping to participate in the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Hasaranga, 26, missed Sri Lanka’s recent Asia Cup campaign in which they placed second due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the Lankan Premier League playoffs last month.
Although Sri Lanka is aware that Hasaranga has a limited amount of time to demonstrate his fitness before their World Cup start against South Africa on October 7 in Delhi, the team is still looking into all possible options to allow the right-armer to play in the 50-over showcase.
“We are speaking with foreign physicians to determine whether or not he requires surgery. He will be out of commission for at least three months if he does. Arjuna de Silva, the head of the Sri Lanka medical panel, told The Sunday Times newspaper in Sri Lanka that the situation is not good right now and that it is highly doubtful that he will be able to play in the World Cup.

Hasaranga topped the wicket charts during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier competition in Zimbabwe earlier this year as well. He was the leading wicket-taker at the two most recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cups.
