Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly leaning towards selling Italian international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer. The French champions are keen to avoid losing him without a transfer fee, especially as discussions regarding his contract renewal have been unproductive and frustrating for the club.
Negotiations for a new deal have reportedly been stagnant for over a year. With Donnarumma’s current contract set to expire at the end of the upcoming season, PSG feels it`s time to act decisively and prevent a situation where he could leave for free.
Donnarumma`s Future at PSG in Doubt
According to the French sports daily L`Equipe, PSG management is determined to prevent a scenario similar to Kylian Mbappé`s recent departure to Real Madrid, where the club received no compensation for a key player. This strong stance implies that a sale this season is highly probable for Donnarumma.
The club is already exploring options for his replacement, with Lille`s Lucas Chevalier reportedly being considered as a potential successor in goal.
Despite the contract uncertainty, numerous top clubs are reportedly interested in acquiring the 26-year-old goalkeeper, who recently celebrated a Champions League victory. His age and proven track record make him an attractive prospect on the market.
While Italian clubs like Inter Milan and Juventus are considered potential suitors for Donnarumma, a move to the Premier League appears to be more likely. Chelsea, in particular, is reportedly very eager to secure his services.
English clubs, including Chelsea, are also expected to be capable of matching Donnarumma`s substantial current annual salary of €12 million, making them strong contenders in the race for his signature.
