PSL 9: Naveen-ul-Haq discusses playing with Babar Azam, who is described as “calm.” Fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq of Peshawar Zalmi recently shared his thoughts about playing in the ninth Pakistan Super League (PSL) season under coach Babar Azam. Zalmi hopes to win their second league championship under Babar Azam in 2017. To repeat their triumph from the final, when they overcame the Quetta Gladiators to take home the title and reward. 

In a podcast aired on Peshawar’s Zalmi YouTube channel, Naveen analyzed his journey playing under Babar’s captaincy, revealing his character as “very calm” and his skills in situations where he uses relief.

According to Naveen, Babar Azam’s leadership style revolves around maintaining a comfortable environment by intervening when necessary. He emphasized the importance of communication, describing communication with Babar as effortless due to a shared calm personality.

The freshman expressed his belief that a strong captain positively impacts team vitality, especially during tough times on the field or after a loss. He praised Babar’s ability to keep the team cohesive and strong, contrasting the pitfalls that can come from an officer who is too aggressive or active.

Reflecting on his former Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir’s debut on the field in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Naveen assured that any on-field tensions have been left behind. He confirmed that he and Amir are past the incident, and revealed an amicable meeting in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) where any outstanding issues are reconciled and resolved.

Naveen’s insights provide a glimpse into the perfect atmosphere of Peshawar Zalmi under the leadership of Babar Azam, highlighting the importance of restraint and effective communication in fostering team cohesion and success on the cricket field.
