Graduates of Real Madrid`s esteemed academy delivered an outstanding performance in Como`s recent 2-0 victory over Lazio. Head coach Cesc Fabregas, visibly impressed, specifically highlighted one defender`s display as “outstanding.”
The “Azzurri” secured a confident 2-0 win against Lazio in their much-anticipated 2025-26 Serie A debut match, signaling a promising start to their top-flight campaign.
A pivotal figure in this triumph was Nico Paz, who earned the Man of the Match title. His contributions included a crucial assist and a spectacular free-kick goal that left spectators in awe.

“We worked so much with him,” Fabregas remarked in an interview, referring to Paz`s development. “He has been training non-stop since the start of pre-season. In the end, hard work pays off. Today, he gave us a decisive goal, and not only that. When it came to attacking one-on-one, he also provided an assist that earned us another three points. These boys are hungry for victories, eager to learn, and improve themselves every day. For me, it`s a privilege to guide them.”
Nico Paz has commenced his second season at Como, building on a strong debut campaign in Italy`s top flight where he impressively contributed six goals and nine assists.

While Paz is currently a Como player, Real Madrid retains a strategic option to re-sign him, with clauses set at €9 million in 2026 and €10 million in 2027. This highlights his perceived long-term potential.
However, his burgeoning market value already far exceeds these figures. Reports indicate that Tottenham Hotspur submitted a substantial offer of €50 million for the Argentine, which Como firmly rejected, underlining their commitment to the young talent.
Further demonstrating this strategic approach, Fabregas`s team secured another Real Madrid Academy product this summer, Jacobo Ramon. His acquisition followed the same formula: a permanent transfer complemented by a buy-back option for Real Madrid.

“It`s about the mentality; all the lads are accustomed to playing under pressure, winning, and playing with a high defensive line. That`s why we bring in players who are used to this style of football, and today he [Ramon] played an outstanding game,” Fabregas elaborated during a post-match press conference.
“Last year, he only played a few games with the Real Madrid youth team, but I hope he will continue to seek guidance from me, even in challenging situations. Their thirst for knowledge and unwavering desire to learn truly makes me happy to work with them. There`s still considerable room for improvement; we must remain grounded and meticulously prepare for a crucial upcoming match against Bologna.”
