Spanish giants Real Madrid appear to be on the verge of losing out on a player they have been linked with for a significant period and who was widely expected to make a move to the Spanish capital this summer.
The player in question is Ibrahima Konaté.
Reports linking the defender Konaté with Real Madrid have been circulating for the better part of the last year.
These persistent rumors followed widespread media coverage that identified the French international as a primary candidate on Real Madrid’s list of defensive transfer priorities.
Currently, Konaté’s contract with Liverpool is scheduled to expire this summer, making him a potential free agent available for transfer negotiations.
However, if recent press updates from Thursday are accurate, the 26-year-old’s future is likely to be decided very soon.
According to a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano:
“Liverpool are now closer to reaching full agreement with Ibrahima Konaté over new contract. Not done yet but Liverpool are confident.”
