Another key player from Real Madrid’s first team has received a call-up for the upcoming World Cup. David Alaba, the experienced defender, has been named in Austria’s squad for the international tournament.
Alaba has faced a difficult campaign with the Spanish giants. Limited by injuries and strong competition for starting positions, the former Bayern Munich standout has only started four La Liga matches this season.
Despite these club-level challenges, Alaba’s importance to his national team has not diminished. Austria officially revealed their travelling party for the prestigious World Cup event on Monday. Alaba, who remains a vital figure both on and off the pitch for Austria, was prominently featured in Ralf Rangnick’s chosen squad.
The 33-year-old defender will join other notable Austrian players such as Elche’s David Affengruber, Borussia Dortmund’s Marcel Sabitzer, and veteran forward Marko Arnautović in representing their country at the tournament.
