Bologna`s experienced midfielder, Remo Freuler, has publicly stated that the unique atmosphere and strong bond among players at the club are qualities rarely found elsewhere. This comment comes amid a summer filled with intense transfer speculation surrounding the future of several of his teammates.
Earlier this summer, Sam Beukema departed the club to join fellow Serie A side Napoli. Furthermore, the talented Swiss forward Dan Ndoye is currently the subject of significant transfer rumors, with both Napoli and Nottingham Forest reportedly keen on securing his services.
During a press conference at the team’s pre-season camp, Freuler made it clear he wished to focus on Bologna as a collective, rather than singling out individuals. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on the club`s objectives, stating: “I frequently engage in conversations with Dan [Ndoye], but these discussions pertain to matters outside of football. My purpose here today is to talk about Bologna, not about other players.”

Freuler: `We try to give players reason to stay at Bologna but it is their decision`
When questioned on how seasoned players can influence star players to remain at the club, Freuler responded with candor: “I don`t really know!” He elaborated, “They are fully aware of the kind of group we have here and what they would be leaving behind, but ultimately, the final decision rests with them. We strive to convey our perspective and provide compelling reasons for them to stay, yet the ultimate choice is theirs to make. The environment and camaraderie we possess here at Bologna are genuinely rare, so if they choose to depart, it signifies that they have given it careful thought.”

Freuler also cast his gaze towards the forthcoming season, expressing anticipation for Bologna`s participation in the Europa League. The club qualified for this continental competition thanks to their success in the 2024-25 Coppa Italia. The Swiss international conveyed his enthusiasm for more European football, stating: “It`s a competition that I have always held in high regard. It`s truly enjoyable and intensely competitive. We are committed to giving it our absolute best and endeavoring to advance as far as possible.”
Last season, the 33-year-old was a constant fixture in his team, making an impressive 49 appearances across all competitions, including seven matches in the Champions League.
