Mateo Retegui expressed satisfaction that the Italian national team is successfully adopting the strategies of coach Gennaro Gattuso, following their decisive 3-0 victory over Israel. This crucial win secured Italy`s spot in the upcoming World Cup play-offs.
This commanding performance came just days after a somewhat unconvincing 3-1 triumph against Estonia, a match where the Azzurri had found it challenging to penetrate Israel`s defense at the Stadio Friuli.
Despite having a penalty saved in the previous game, Retegui confidently stepped up again this evening, converting a powerful spot-kick to break the deadlock and open the scoring for Italy.
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was called upon to make two crucial saves, highlighting Italy`s ongoing vulnerability to counter-attacks. This defensive weakness was also observed in their narrow 5-4 victory over Israel just last month.
