Spain and Manchester City midfielder Rodri has publicly addressed, for the first time, the recent incident involving his compatriot Gavi during a training session.
The situation gained widespread attention after a video clip from a Spanish national team training session went viral online. The footage showed Gavi stepping on Rodri’s foot during a drill, leaving the Manchester City player in visible discomfort.
While acknowledged as accidental, the incident drew significant criticism towards the young Barcelona player, with some accusing him of recklessness shortly before Spain’s World Cup campaign was set to begin.
During a media availability on Friday, Rodri was questioned about the challenge from his midfield partner. The 29-year-old shared his perspective:
“Gavi is an energetic player. He has no filter and doesn’t hold back. We really appreciate his personality, though we do try to remind him that training is different from a match.”
He added with a touch of humor, “I had no idea they were filming, but I was absolutely terrified.”
