A significant transfer update concerning Manchester City’s midfield maestro, Rodri, has emerged, with Fabrizio Romano confirming the player’s openness to a potential move to Real Madrid. Romano highlighted on Instagram that Rodri has yet to finalize a new contract with the current Premier League champions, casting uncertainty over his long-term future at the Etihad Stadium.
This revelation follows recent statements from the Spanish international, where he hinted at a willingness to play for Real Madrid at some point in his career. While it’s unclear if Los Blancos are actively pursuing Rodri, his status as one of the world’s elite defensive midfielders makes him a highly desirable asset, and a return to La Liga could be appealing to him.
Rodri’s Stance on Real Madrid Move Despite Atletico Past
Despite having previously played for Real Madrid’s rivals, Atletico Madrid, Rodri has indicated that a move to the Santiago Bernabéu would not be an issue for him. The 29-year-old began his senior career at Villarreal, spent time in Atletico’s youth system, and played one professional season for them before joining Manchester City in 2019.
Addressing his contractual situation and future, Rodri, as quoted by Sky Sports, stated: “I have a year left on my contract. There will come a point when we’ll have to sit down and talk.” He added, “There are other players who’ve taken that path (between both Madrid clubs). Not directly, but over time. You can’t turn down the best clubs in the world.”
Reflecting on a potential return to his home country, he remarked, “I would like to return (to LaLiga) yes, of course. For me, LaLiga is where I started. I still follow it, not as much as before, but I still follow it. But right now, I am very happy here (in the Premier League).”
With Real Madrid reportedly considering the departure of Eduardo Camavinga this summer, the club might be in the market for a midfielder, making Rodri a prime candidate to fill such a void.
