Reports emerging from Italy suggest that AS Roma is currently in discussions with Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion concerning potential transfer agreements for two of their players: Irish striker Evan Ferguson and Danish midfielder Matt O’Riley.
According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma maintains an interest in O’Riley. Concurrently, Corriere dello Sport reports that the Giallorossi are nearing a potential deal for Ferguson, which is anticipated to be a loan move featuring an option to purchase the player permanently.
O’Riley`s Potential Departure After One Season at Brighton
Brighton only secured O’Riley from Scottish club Celtic last summer in a transfer valued at £25 million, with potential add-ons reaching up to £5 million. However, the 24-year-old experienced a challenging inaugural season in England, significantly impacted by injuries.
His Premier League debut was prematurely ended by injury after just seven minutes, limiting him to a total of only 21 league appearances for the Seagulls throughout the 2024-25 season.
Italian reports further suggest that Brighton could be amenable to a loan agreement for O`Riley that includes a mandatory purchase clause. It is also noted that Roma`s recently appointed head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, holds the Denmark international in high regard.
A New Chapter for Ferguson in Rome?
Regarding Ferguson, the Irish forward spent the latter half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan at fellow Premier League side West Ham United. However, he featured in only 8 matches across all competitions for the Hammers and did not manage to score.
As a result, the striker has found the net just once in his last 21 Premier League appearances, a run stretching back to the commencement of the previous season.
