AS Roma director Frederic Massara confirmed that Jadon Sancho seemingly lacks the necessary “motivation” to join the Giallorossi. He also announced that Lorenzo Pellegrini would leave the club “either now or in January.”
Massara made these statements to DAZN just minutes before Saturday`s Serie A match against Bologna. This game marked Roma`s first official match of the season at a sold-out Stadio Olimpico.
Sancho Negotiations Status

Roma had been in talks with Sancho for several days, but the English winger appears unwilling to join the Giallorossi.
“Sancho is a strong player who was linked with all Italian clubs,” Massara confirmed via SportMediaset. “At the moment, it`s merely a suggestion because there don`t seem to be the right conditions, and most importantly, the motivation to continue these negotiations.”
Pellegrini`s Imminent Departure from Roma

Meanwhile, one player leaving the capital is Lorenzo Pellegrini, who will not be the captain for the 2025/26 season. West Ham has recently shown interest in the Italian midfielder, who will not extend his contract with the club beyond 2026.
“I spoke to his agent as soon as I arrived, and we mutually decided not to extend his contract,” Massara stated. “Therefore, to avoid losing the player on a free transfer, and also considering Lorenzo`s wishes, we are actively looking for transfer opportunities. There are still eight days remaining; otherwise, the transfer will occur in the January window.”
This summer, Roma appointed Gian Piero Gasperini as their new coach, while Bologna retained Vincenzo Italiano after winning the Coppa Italia last season. Earlier today, Napoli secured a 2-0 victory over Sassuolo, and Lecce and Genoa played to a 0-0 draw in the season`s first two Serie A matches.
