Roma suffered a 0-1 defeat against Lille at the Stadio Olimpico in their second Europa League group stage fixture. Arnar Haraldsson`s early goal proved to be the decisive factor.
The Giallorossi squandered a golden chance to equalize when Artem Dovbyk and Matias Soulé both failed to convert from the penalty spot. Lille`s goalkeeper, Ozer, saved three consecutive attempts, as the penalties had to be retaken due to player encroachment.
Following the match, Roma`s goalkeeper Mile Svilar spoke to Sky Sport (via LaRoma24), sharing his reflections on the disheartening evening.
“Clearly, we could have performed better, at least securing an equalizer… but we must continue to push forward.”
Roma Keeper Svilar: “We Made More Mistakes Than Usual”

Svilar conceded that Roma lacked sharpness, as the team failed to capitalize on numerous opportunities to get back into the match, despite largely dominating possession.
“Yes, perhaps we made a few more errors than typical. It`s a shame, but we`re moving on. In two days, we`ll be in Florence.”
Regarding his personal performance, he remained modest:
“I simply do my part. The goal in the fifth minute was regrettable. Something could have been prevented, but as I stated, we press on.”

Haraldsson put Lille ahead by catching the Roma defense off guard, gaining possession deep in the Giallorossi`s half and curling the ball past Svilar.
Finally, Svilar addressed Roma`s ongoing penalty struggles:
“Ultimately, I always observe them. I believe the player taking the penalty showed great courage and genuinely aimed to score. It`s a pity, but the next one will go in.”
