A significant institutional and sporting event is scheduled for tomorrow, March 25, at 2:00 PM, at the Lorusso e Cutugno Penitentiary in Turin.
Following institutional greetings, the event will proceed with joint sporting activities involving incarcerated athletes, members of the ‘La Drola’ team competing in the Serie C Championship, and players from the Italian Men’s and Women’s National Rugby Teams. This initiative underscores rugby’s fundamental values: respect for rules, loyalty, responsibility, and team spirit.
Attendees will include Sergio Manto, President of the Regional Committee of the Italian Rugby Federation; Elena Lombardi Vallauri, Director of the Institute; Domenico Carretta, Sports Councillor for the City of Turin; Waltr Rista, President of La Drola Society; and athletes from the Italian Women’s, Men’s, and Under 20 National Teams. A representative from Macron, FIR’s technical partner, will also be present.
This initiative is part of a Memorandum of Understanding, valid until 2028, signed between the Department of Prison Administration and the Italian Rugby Federation. This agreement aims to strengthen and expand the ‘Rugby Beyond Bars’ project nationally, highlighting the importance of sport in rehabilitation and social reintegration pathways.
Macron, supporting the FIR, contributes to the ‘Rugby Beyond Bars’ project by providing technical equipment and apparel for all involved athletes, facilitating sporting activities and encounters between the National Rugby Teams and the incarcerated individuals.
Through this collaboration, the Italian Rugby Federation and Macron reaffirm their social commitment, recognizing rugby as a powerful tool for education, growth, and inclusion with a positive impact on the community.
