Sacchi Warns Inter: Chivu’s Success Relies on Club’s Support

Football & Cricket

Arrigo Sacchi has issued a caution to Inter Milan, stressing the necessity for the club to heed the guidance of their new coach, Cristian Chivu. Sacchi contends that the club now faces the “most challenging responsibility” following the appointment of their former defender.

Having already overseen his first matches for Inter during the recent Club World Cup, former AC Milan coach Sacchi strongly advises the Nerazzurri to embrace Chivu`s vision, particularly concerning their transfer market strategy this summer.

In his recent column for Gazzetta dello Sport, Sacchi stated, “It will take several months for him to fully articulate his tactical philosophy and for the players to assimilate it.”

Chivu`s Intimate Knowledge is an Asset, Says Sacchi

Sacchi highlights Chivu`s distinct advantage: “His profound familiarity with the club`s internal workings, stemming from his time as both a player and a youth coach, is undoubtedly a significant asset.”

While Inter reportedly aims to bolster its attack with Ademola Lookman, whose €45 million offer (including add-ons) was rejected by Atalanta, and possibly acquire a central defender, Sacchi insists that the club`s primary focus must be on aligning with their coach`s vision.

The veteran Italian coach emphasized, “Currently, the most demanding position is not Chivu`s, but that of the club itself. The coach requires steadfast support from the management, who are responsible for guiding him through challenging periods and protecting him from undue criticism. Furthermore, they must facilitate the construction of the team he envisions by actively seeking the necessary players in the transfer market.”

Inter Must Not Disregard Chivu`s Requests

Sacchi`s firm advice: Inter must not disregard Chivu. “Inter must avoid the common pitfall of overlooking their coach`s requirements, a mistake frequently made by other clubs. Chivu possesses a clear understanding of the team`s needs, and within the club`s financial framework, the directors are obligated to fulfill his requests.”

Inter is scheduled to commence their 2025-26 Serie A campaign on August 25, with a home fixture against Torino.

Sacchi concluded by stating, “Initial challenges are to be expected, but these should not serve as grounds to doubt the coach`s capabilities. Once the team is placed in his hands and collective objectives are established, the sole imperative is to assist him in achieving those aims. It`s crucial to remember that he is the expedition leader, the primary communicator with the players, and the individual responsible for instilling his playing style. Therefore, his directives must always be given due consideration.”

This summer, Inter has already secured the transfers of Petar Sucic, Luis Henrique, and Ange-Yoan Bonny.
