B Sai Sudharsan will not participate on the third day of the ongoing second Test match in Delhi, after suffering an impact injury on the previous day. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Sunday morning that the injury is not severe, and the player`s condition is stable.
The incident occurred during the second day when Sai Sudharsan, positioned at forward short-leg, successfully caught John Campbell off Ravindra Jadeja`s bowling. Campbell`s aggressive slog-sweep hit Sudharsan directly on his helmet grille before the ball nestled into his arms, securing the dismissal.
This injury took place in the eighth over of West Indies` first innings, shortly after India declared their innings at 518 for 5. Sai Sudharsan remained off the field for the remaining 35 overs of the day. The BCCI stated he is under continuous monitoring by their medical team, but there was no immediate update on whether he would be fit to bat on the third day, either at his usual No. 3 position or at all, should West Indies` first innings conclude.
Earlier in the match, Sudharsan played a crucial role with the bat, scoring 87 runs off 165 deliveries, including 12 boundaries. He forged a significant 193-run partnership for the second wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal. His innings concluded in the 69th over when he attempted to flick Jomel Warrican across the line. With Jaiswal scoring 175 and Shubman Gill remaining unbeaten on 129, India is in a strong position to secure a 2-0 series victory.
