Samuel Mbangula, a promising talent from Juventus` Next Gen program, has officially completed a permanent transfer to Bundesliga club SV Werder Bremen. This move concludes his tenure with the Bianconeri`s first-team after just one season.
Juventus has confirmed the financial specifics of the deal, revealing that Werder Bremen will pay a base fee of €10 million, disbursed in four installments. The agreement also includes potential bonuses reaching up to an additional €2 million. Significantly, the sale of the young Belgian international has generated a capital gain of €6.9 million for the Turin giants.
Reports indicate that the 21-year-old forward has committed to a long-term contract with the German side, signing a five-year deal that extends until the summer of 2030. Interestingly, Werder Bremen`s initial offer of €8 million plus add-ons was reportedly rejected by “The Old Lady” just over a week before the final agreement was reached.
Mbangula`s journey with Juventus spanned five years, beginning with his transfer from Anderlecht in the summer of 2020. He spent four formative years developing within the Primavera and Next Gen teams before being integrated into the senior squad under coach Thiago Motta at the start of the 2024-25 season.
His debut competitive start for Juventus` senior team was particularly memorable, as he netted the opening goal of the 2024-25 Serie A season in a dominant 3-0 victory over newly promoted Como during the first weekend. Throughout that season, Mbangula contributed three Serie A goals and added another crucial goal in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven. Furthermore, his four Serie A assists last term highlighted his playmaking ability, a figure only surpassed by Kenan Yildiz (six), and both Khephren Thuram and Dusan Vlahovic (each with five).
Peter Niemeyer, Werder Bremen’s sporting director, expressed his delight regarding the acquisition: “We are very pleased that we were able to sign Samuel and that he has made a long-term decision to join Werder.”
He further elaborated on the club`s confidence in Mbangula`s potential: “We see a lot of potential in him. He enjoyed an excellent education in Belgium and especially at Juve and proved his quality at the highest level with Juventus’ professionals last season. For us, this is a transfer that we have implemented with full conviction. We have always said that we are also willing to invest if we are convinced of a player and his potential. This is absolutely the case with Samuel. We are convinced that he will help us directly with his quality.”
