Ismaël Koné, the 23-year-old Canadian international midfielder, is on the verge of completing a move to Serie A club Sassuolo from Olympique Marseille. After returning to Marseille this summer, having not been retained by Stade Rennais, Koné found himself without a clear path to the first team and has been training separately as Marseille looked to facilitate his departure.
An agreement has now been finalized between Marseille and Sassuolo for the transfer of the former Watford player. The deal is structured as an initial loan, which includes an option for a permanent transfer valued at €12.5 million. This option will automatically convert into an obligation if Sassuolo successfully avoids relegation from Serie A this season. Furthermore, Marseille has ensured they will benefit from any future transfer of Koné by including a sell-on clause in the agreement.
Koné is anticipated to travel for his medical examination this Saturday, signaling the imminent conclusion of his brief tenure at Olympique Marseille.
