Serie A | Atalanta 1-1 Pisa: Scamacca’s Goal Not Enough for Disappointing Dea

Football & Cricket

Gianluca Scamacca found the net in Serie A for the first time in more than a year, yet Atalanta`s new chapter under coach Ivan Juric commenced with an underwhelming stalemate against newly promoted Pisa.

Atalanta, nicknamed La Dea, kicked off their season competitively under their new manager Juric. They were notably without Ademola Lookman, who was pushing for a transfer, while Ederson lacked full fitness and both Sead Kolasinac and Mitchel Bakker were sidelined with injuries. Pisa, managed by Alberto Gilardino, also faced numerous absences, including Alexander Lind, Tomas Esteves, Henrik Meister, Isak Vural, Mateus Lusuardi, and Francesco Coppola.

Initially pressured by their opponents, Pisa gradually found their rhythm and broke the deadlock. Samuele Angori delivered a cross from Idrissa Toure towards the far post for Henrik Meister, but it was Isak Hien who inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net, giving Pisa an unexpected lead.

Raoul Bellanova attempted to head in a cross from Nicola Zalewski at the back post, but a crucial deflection off a Pisa defender prevented the equalizer.

Pisa almost extended their advantage shortly after, as Marco Carnesecchi had to leap to push a header from Moreo, following Angori’s cross, away from under the crossbar.

Daniel Maldini struggled to maintain his footing while attempting an acrobatic control of a long ball from Charles De Ketelaere. However, Scamacca restored parity for Atalanta soon after the second half began.

Receiving the ball from Mario Pasalic, the forward skillfully took a touch to bypass a defender before curling a right-footed shot from 12 yards into the bottom far corner. This marked his first Serie A goal in over 450 days, a significant return following his ACL injury in August 2024.

The momentum shifted entirely in Atalanta`s favor. Berat Djimsiti, playing in a more advanced position, shot over the bar while off-balance after evading a defender, and then Scamacca’s powerful header rattled the crossbar.

Adrian Semper managed to tip another Bellanova header, from a Zalewski cross, over the bar. The goalkeeper then delivered a superb one-on-one save against Daniel Maldini, who had cleverly beaten the offside trap.
