Olympique de Marseille`s 27-year-old full-back, Pol Lirola, is attracting significant attention from various Serie A clubs. The Ligue 1 side aims to offload the Spanish defender before the current transfer window closes, as they look to balance their squad and finances.
Lirola is reportedly a key target for several Italian teams, including newly-promoted Pisa, as well as Genoa, Udinese, and Parma. The defender, whose contract at the Vélodrome extends until 2026, is currently valued between €5 million and €6 million.
Pisa, seeking to bolster their right-back position, appears to be leading the pursuit for the former Fiorentina and Sassuolo player. While clubs in La Liga are also said to be monitoring Lirola`s situation, no formal bids have yet emerged from Spain.
Lirola retains a strong reputation in Italy, a country where he spent a significant portion of his early career. This continued interest is further supported by the robust connections Marseille`s sporting leadership, including figures like De Zerbi, Pablo Longoria, Medhi Benatia, and technical director Giovanni Rossi, maintain within Italian football circles.
Marseille is under considerable pressure to streamline its wage bill following recent acquisitions such as Angel Gomes, Facundo Medina, and CJ Egan-Riley, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also expected to join shortly. Although the departures of Valentin Rongier and Quentin Merlin to Rennes were initial steps in this direction, the club still needs to finalize more player exits before the transfer deadline to achieve its financial objectives.
