Match Recap
Coach Matteo Battocchio fielded Argilagos setting, Feral at opposite, Codarin and Mosca as middle blockers, Strehlau and Champlin on the pins, and Loubeyre as libero.
Cannes started stronger in the first set, leading 6-2. Cuneo responded, with Feral and Strehlau closing the gap. A block by Codarin gave Cuneo their first lead. They maintained control, reaching 20-14 before closing the set at 25-19 with a final point from Codarin.
In the second set, Cannes attempted another early lead, but Cuneo stayed close. Trailing 13-16, Cuneo mounted a comeback. After tying at 18-18, they pulled ahead. Volpe's service entered play, disrupting Cannes' reception and contributing to a 21-20 lead. Cuneo completed the rally, winning the set 25-21.
The third set saw Acqua Sant’Anna jump out to a quick 6-2 advantage. Blocks from Codarin and Feral extended the lead to 10-5, and Argilagos added another block for 14-9. At 15-10, Coscione and Sala replaced Argilagos and Feral; Sala then served an ace for 17-11.
Cuneo held their advantage despite a Cannes rally. Codarin scored an ace for 20-15 and followed up with a block for 24-18. After Cannes saved two match points, Feral delivered a back-row attack to seal the set 25-20, securing the 3-0 match victory for Cuneo.
Coach Battocchio's Comments
“We executed some things well,” Coach Matteo Battocchio stated, “but there are also areas we need to correct quickly, especially our start in the first set. We have to be honest; they were playing with a significantly depleted roster and several key absences.”
“We are a very new team,” the coach continued, “and some players have only trained together for three or four sessions. It will take time. Some aspects worked, while others, in my opinion, did not function effectively. We need to understand these points and focus on improving them.”
Battocchio also emphasized the value of internal competition. “A significant advantage we have this year is having many players who can contribute immediately. This raises the level of training and internal competition, always with respect for roles. Those starting slightly behind must strive to overtake others, creating a positive cycle: I aim to improve, and you must improve to maintain your position.”
“The arrivals of Nathan and Leo have elevated the team’s level,” Battocchio concluded, “but today, players like Mimmo, Lollo, Fox, Coscio, and Mancapia were also crucial. They are all very important to us.”
