Tamberi Soars to Another Fabulous European Gold!
Gianmarco Tamberi has clinched the gold medal in the high jump at the European Championships in Birmingham, with Matteo Sioli earning a bronze. The Italian athlete cleared 2.32 meters on his second attempt, two centimeters higher than the Ukrainian silver medalist, Oleh Doroshchuk. This marks Tamberi's fourth outdoor European title, following his victories in Amsterdam 2016, Munich 2022, and Rome 2024.
Sioli, who had a flawless performance up to 2.27 meters, stopped after his first attempt at 2.30 due to a muscular strain. Christian Falocchi was eliminated after failing to clear 2.23 meters on three attempts, having previously cleared 2.18. Edoardo Stronati also struggled, failing his first three attempts at 2.18.
With Tamberi's gold and Nadia Battocletti's victory in the 10,000 meters, Italy has overtaken Great Britain and now leads the medal table.
Desalu Earns Bronze in 200 Meters
It was also a memorable evening for Fausto Desalu, who secured a bronze medal in the 200 meters. The Italian finished the final in third place, tied with Switzerland's Timothé Mumenthaler. The gold went to Germany's Owen Ansah, with Great Britain's Zharnel Hughes taking silver.
