July 11, 2026Pablo Navarro1 мин

For elite ultramarathon runners, the most significant event of 2026 will be the 100 km World Championships. These individual and team races are scheduled for Sunday, September 20, in Ames, Spain. According to IAU (International Association of Ultrarunners) regulations, the World Championships organizing committee must receive a preliminary list of a maximum of nine names per team within ninety days of the race date. From this list, the final six selected athletes (plus a potential reserve) will be chosen. The top three finishers from each of the six-person men's and women's teams will contribute points towards the World Nations Championship.

Top Runners Gear Up for Passatore

The "ninety-day" deadline before September 20 means that the Italian national team selectors, Monica Casiraghi for the women's team and Paolo Bravi for the men's team, will have until Monday, June 15, to submit their preliminary lists of 9 men and 9 women. This paves the way for intense competition among Italy's top ultramarathon runners at the Passatore race on May 23-24, an event that also serves as the Italian 100 km Championship. Training camps and summer programs, commencing immediately after the 50 km Pistoia-Abetone race on June 28, will allow athletes to recover from any ailments and build their fitness to best honor the national jersey should they be selected.
