Wall Tamburello: Piedmont Celebrates 50 Years as New Season Begins
The countdown has begun for the new tamburello season in Piedmont, which, with the arrival of spring, sees the region's sferisteri (tamburello courts) come alive. This year holds special significance as it marks the 50th anniversary of the maximum wall tamburello championships.
To commemorate the start of this landmark year, a special evening event is scheduled for Friday, March 27, at 8:30 PM, at the Teatro Comunale in Piazza Garibaldi, Moncalvo (AT). The curtain will rise on the upcoming tamburello season before an audience of sports authorities, institutional figures, and media representatives.
A highlight of the evening will be the official presentation of “True Sounds” magazine, a special monographic issue entirely dedicated to half a century of tambass (tamburello). This 96-page publication, featuring contributions from 14 authors, delves into the passionate history of Monferrato's iconic sport, enriched with historical photos and visual narratives. The magazine is available starting from the event night, highlighting tambass's growing appeal beyond local audiences, a collaboration with the Consorzio Operatori Turistici Asti e Monferrato.
The event, promoted by the Regional and Provincial Committees of the Italian Tamburello Federation (FIPT) and hosted by Ivo Anselmo and Alessandra De Vincenzi, will feature esteemed speakers including directors, journalists, and legendary players such as Mimmo Basso, Franco Binello, Carlo Cerrato, Alessandra De Vincenzi, and Mauro Fracchia, guided by managing director Liana Pastorin. On-stage interviews will preview the magazine's content.
Following the presentation, clubs and teams competing in the Italian Wall and Open Championships for Serie A and B (Men's and Women's) will parade. Piedmontese players participating in Open Championships outside the region will also receive applause, alongside representatives from historical clubs like ADT Tonco (2009 champions), AT Grana (1983 champions), ASD Castell’Alfero (2006 champions), ASD Casa Paletti, ASD Tamburellistica Moncalvese (2017 champions), and veterans from Montaldo Scarampi.
While detailed game calendars will be released soon, the first weekend of the Serie A del Muro is already set for Sunday, March 29, starting at 3:30 PM. The inaugural matches will feature: Portacomaro vs. Vignale, Azzano vs. Grazzano, Calliano vs. Rocca d’Arazzo, and Montemagno vs. Montechiaro.
