Sevilla Football Club officially announced on Monday the termination of head coach Matías Almeyda’s contract.
This decision comes in the wake of a persistently concerning period of performance for the Nervionenses.
The team recently suffered another significant setback last weekend, losing two goals to nil at home against Valencia. This defeat means Sevilla has secured only a single victory in their last eight La Liga fixtures, leaving them precariously placed at 15th in the Spanish top-flight standings.
With just a three-point buffer above the relegation zone, the board at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium deemed it necessary to implement immediate changes.
According to an official statement released by Sevilla across its website and social media platforms on Monday, Matías Almeyda has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect:
‘Matías Almeyda has been dismissed as manager of Sevilla FC. The Argentine coach departs the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium after overseeing 32 official matches – 29 in LaLiga and 3 in the Copa del Rey – following his arrival at the Nervión club in the summer of 2025.’
‘Sevilla FC extends its gratitude to Matías Almeyda and his team for their commitment and work during these months and wishes him the very best of luck in his future professional challenges.’
