A massive win for South Africa and good news for Pakistan and Afghanistan to qualify for the Semi-Fianls. SA won the match by 190 margin to hugely dent New Zealand’s Net Run Rate which may cost them the World Cup as Pakistan and Afghanistan were looking for a door to open. New Zealand’s NRR dropped from +1.23 to +0.48 which has opened the World Cup for other teams. South Africa batted first and set a huge total of 357 runs to chase and New Zealand in response couldn’t bat well and bowled out on 167 on the board.

Posting 357 on the board can’t be easy to chase but no one could expect such a huge defeat looking at New Zealand’s performance in this tournament. The response was not good for KIWIs after losing two early wickets of the men in form, Devon Conway, and Rachin Ravindra. After 4 for 67, they never looked in the game. The only thing they were looking for was to improve their NRR.
Glenn Phillips was the only batter who resisted to some extent but got out after scoring 60. It helped their NRR to get worse. Young was also impressive with his 33 runs. But this wasn’t enough to chase such a huge total. 8 batters couldn’t get to the double figure which was the main reason for such a low total.
South African bowlers were magnificent. Every bowler chipped in. Keshav Maharaj was the pick of the bowlers who got 4 wickets in his 9 overs and gave away only 46 runs. Marco Jansen is an impressive youngster who always looks for wickets. The initial spell from him was the game setter. He is on fire in this World Cup. Gerald Coetzee got 2 wickets while Rabada also got one wicket.
The World Cup is now wide open, especially for Pakistan Afghanistan, and even England. These teams have to play well to make it to the Semi-Finals. Pakistan will take New Zealand in the next match and if they manage to beat New Zealand in that match it will be a great chance for them to get to the final fours
