Italy`s national team coach, Luciano Spalletti, recently identified five elite players within the squad and drew a notable comparison between the promising young striker Francesco Pio Esposito and the legendary forward Christian Vieri.
Spalletti Highlights Italy’s Key Talent

During his appearance at the Festival dello Sport in Trento, Spalletti confidently stated that Italy possesses a well-rounded squad capable of fielding a competitive team, even if the player pool is perceived as limited. He specifically singled out Gianluigi Donnarumma, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Alessandro Bastoni, Sandro Tonali, and Nicolo Barella as “top-class” talents within the team.
Regarding Francesco Pio Esposito, Spalletti expressed strong belief in the young player`s potential to be a formidable presence in the penalty area. Esposito recently achieved a significant milestone, scoring his inaugural international goal in Italy`s 3-1 victory against Estonia.
Esposito`s Style Evokes Christian Vieri

Spalletti lauded Esposito`s recent goal, describing it as “incredible” due to its exceptional coordination and the power with which the ball was struck. He then drew a direct parallel, remarking, “Maybe Bobo Vieri was something like that.”
Elaborating on the comparison, Spalletti noted Vieri`s unique ability to perfectly control and set up any ball delivered to him – a quality he now observes in Esposito, having frequently watched him play for Spezia. The coach concluded by expressing firm confidence in Italy`s qualification for the World Cup, attributing this optimism to the inherent strength of the players and the strategic flexibility available within the squad. He believes the team possesses effective solutions and holds significant potential to achieve greatness.
