Leonardo Spinazzola delivered a standout performance, helping Napoli secure a 2-1 Champions League victory against Sporting Lisbon, where he filled in for the suspended Giovanni Di Lorenzo on the right flank.
Di Lorenzo had been sent off in the team`s opening Champions League fixture against Manchester City, a match that saw Conte`s side lose to the Premier League heavyweights.
“I felt quite good, even though I`m naturally more comfortable on the left,” Spinazzola stated to Sky Sport, as reported by Corriere dello Sport. The defender conceded that the unfamiliar role required some adaptation, but he successfully met the challenge.
Spinazzola Addresses De Bruyne Situation and Napoli`s Resurgence
A significant portion of the post-match discourse centered on the perceived internal issues involving Kevin De Bruyne, which Spinazzola quickly downplayed: “The De Bruyne incident? Media speculation had previously suggested a disagreement between De Bruyne and Conte following the coach`s decision to substitute the Belgian during the weekend`s loss to Milan. However, it appears much of this was exaggerated by the press.
Spinazzola then emphasized the importance of the night`s victory. “These are three crucial points against a formidable opponent, a team brimming with young, technically skilled, and fast players. After a solid start, we eased off slightly, but we regained momentum and pushed hard in the second half.”
