Strange events occur at the second Test between Australia and Pakistan as the third umpire becomes locked in the lift

Strange events occur at the second Test between Australia and Pakistan as the third umpire becomes locked in the lift. Australia and Pakistan’s Boxing Day Test match took an unexpected turn on the third day when there was an odd post-lunch delay. The third umpire, Richard Illingworth, was found to be the source of the interruption when he became stopped in an elevator and was unable to get to his cabin in time.

Cricket Australia used its official X Twitter to confirm this strange incidence. Surprisingly, Illingworth had not yet taken his seat in the third umpire’s room when the players and on-field umpires took the field after lunch.

After a few minutes, Illingworth, an English referee who had officiated the 2023 World Cup final, was able to make it back to his seat. He was happy and even waved as he headed back to the cabin, despite the fairly strange encounter. A video of an apparently perplexed Illingworth entering the third umpire’s chamber was shared by Cricket Australia.

Pakistan took two early wickets in Australia’s second innings, and the second Test between the two teams is rapidly moving towards an exciting finale. Australia was at 6/2 at lunchtime after being knocked out for 264 in response to the hosts’ 318 after Shaheen Afridi struck twice in the opening three overs, dismissing Marnus Labuschagne and the dangerous Usman Khawaja. When play resumed, Mir Hamza hit two balls in a row, getting rid of Travis Head for a first-ball duck and David Warner for six.

Australia’s outstanding 360-run victory in Perth has given them a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Pakistan, on the other hand, has not won a Test match in Australia since 1995 and has not yet won a series in the longest format in Australia.
