Strasbourg president Marc Keller has disclosed that the club`s captain, Emmanuel Emegha, rejected approximately ten transfer offers during the recent summer window. This decision preceded an agreement for him to join Chelsea at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
Keller explained at a conference, whose proceedings were documented by RMC Sport, that when Emegha initially arrived at Strasbourg, he was highly sought after by prominent clubs in both England and Germany. He attributed Emegha`s move to Strasbourg to the involvement of BlueCo. Following an impressive second season, the club received renewed interest from Italy, England, and Germany. A meeting was held involving Emegha, his agent, the club owners, and Keller. The club`s primary objective was to retain Emegha, recognizing him as a key striker and a natural leader. They ultimately reached a compromise: Emegha will transition to Chelsea in one year, but will remain with Strasbourg until then.
Keller emphasized Emegha`s crucial role in his decision to spend another year at the Meinau stadium. “The player made significant efforts,” Keller stated. “He expressed a strong desire to stay. For an athlete who declined ten offers, it is vital for people to understand his complete dedication. I do not wish for him to be subjected to booing; he does not deserve it. A poor performance is merely a part of football, but not on this particular matter.”
Emegha joined Strasbourg from Sturm Graz in 2023 and has since become one of Ligue 1`s most highly-rated forwards, earning the captain’s armband this summer. However, Emegha was the target of fan protests during Strasbourg’s last home game against Le Havre, where the Ultra Boys group displayed a banner that read: “Emegha, pawn of BlueCo. After changing shirt, give back your captain’s armband.”
