The permanent transfer of 23-year-old Pierre Ekwah from Sunderland AFC to AS Saint-Étienne is awaiting official confirmation due to administrative delays.
Despite this, reports suggest the midfielder might be set for another transfer soon. Both Sunderland and the player were reportedly surprised when Saint-Étienne activated the €6m purchase option after his loan spell last season. The club, known as Les Verts, triggered the option just minutes before the deadline on June 15th.
Ekwah`s agreement from last summer means he is expected to sign a contract running until 2028. However, it`s possible he may not remain at the club for the entire duration. While head coach Eirik Horneland is including the player in his plans, the club hierarchy is reportedly open to his potential sale.
Spanish club Real Betis and German side VfB Stuttgart are said to be monitoring the midfielder`s situation, although neither club has reportedly made formal contact with Saint-Étienne yet.
