According to recent reports, Sunderland AFC has initiated contact with Leicester City regarding the potential transfer of midfielder Bilal El Khannouss. The 21-year-old Moroccan international, who joined Leicester last summer on a four-year deal from Belgian club KRC Genk, is reportedly looking to leave the club following their recent relegation to the Championship.
Several clubs have expressed interest in El Khannouss, including French side AS Monaco and Premier League club West Ham United. However, sources suggest that Sunderland has currently moved into a leading position ahead of their competitors in the pursuit of the young player. The Black Cats have been notably active in the current transfer window, seeking to strengthen their squad.
Monaco`s interest in El Khannouss is said to be somewhat complicated by their current squad composition. The club reportedly has a well-stocked roster in the positions El Khannouss typically occupies. Consequently, it is suggested that Monaco might need to offload one of their existing attacking midfielders, potentially a valuable asset like Maghnes Akliouche, before they could proceed with a concrete offer for the Moroccan international.
