Marseille forward Timothy Weah, 24, was forced off the pitch during the United States` friendly defeat against South Korea (0-2) on Sunday. However, initial reports suggest that the injury he sustained is nothing more than a minor discomfort.
The American winger, who joined Olympique Marseille this summer from Juventus, was substituted in the 62nd minute after experiencing discomfort in his right leg. USA manager Mauricio Pochettino downplayed the severity of the incident post-match, explaining that the player had suffered from cramps.
Sources close to the footballer have also sought to reassure supporters, describing the issue as “benign” and pointing to the fact that Weah had undergone an accelerated pre-season due to his late transfer from Italy.
Since his arrival at Marseille, Weah has quickly become an important option for Roberto De Zerbi, who regularly deploys him across multiple attacking roles. Les Olympiens are preparing for a packed September schedule, which includes their return to the Champions League against Real Madrid and the highly anticipated Clasico against PSG on September 21st.
