Olympique de Marseille`s pursuit of Juventus winger Timothy Weah, 25, is reportedly back on track after a period of stalled negotiations. The American international has been consistently linked with a return to Ligue 1 despite previous setbacks.
Earlier, Juventus General Director Damien Comolli had publicly stated that Marseille`s initial offer for the 25-year-old forward was deemed “not adequate.” This led to a belief that the deal might be off the table.
However, new reports emerging on Friday evening suggest that a transfer agreement between the two clubs for Weah might indeed be back under consideration. This comes after some initial confusion surrounding Marseille`s reported €13 million bid. According to sources like Foot Mercato, fresh negotiations are now underway.
Further details from L`Équipe on Friday indicated that Marseille`s maximum offer for Weah stands firm at €15 million, with the club unwilling to budge from this figure. Weah himself appears eager to depart Juventus and make a comeback to French football, where he notably contributed to Lille OSC`s Ligue 1 title victory during the 2020-21 campaign. His two Serie A seasons with Juventus have seen him net just five goals.
Despite his apparent strong desire to return to France, Timothy Weah remains contractually bound to Juventus until 2028, adding complexity to any potential transfer.
Weah`s Career Highlights
Before his successful tenure with Lille, Weah secured two Ligue 1 titles as a member of Paris Saint-Germain. He also gained experience during a loan spell in Scotland with Celtic. Beyond his three Ligue 1 crowns (two with PSG, one with Lille), Weah has also lifted the Trophée des Champions with both PSG and Lille. Furthermore, he has proudly won three CONCACAF Nations League trophies representing the U.S. national team, showcasing his significant contributions on the international stage.
