London-based Tottenham Hotspur has officially declared itself “not for sale,” confirming the rejection of two preliminary offers to acquire the club. These statements follow recent speculation surrounding the club`s future ownership, triggered by Daniel Levy`s resignation as executive chairman.
Approximately 87% of Tottenham`s shares are held by the investment vehicle ENIC, predominantly owned by the Lewis family. The family made the unexpected decision to remove Levy after reviewing the team`s on-pitch performances. Rumors about a potential sale of the club have long circulated, including past discussions with a Qatari consortium. Among the rejected proposals was an expression of interest from Amanda Staveley, former co-owner of Newcastle United, who was also seen at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season.
Sources close to the Lewis family previously indicated that the recent dramatic events did not signal an impending sale of the club, asserting that the changes were solely for footballing reasons. This position was publicly affirmed in an official statement from Tottenham. In it, the club unequivocally rejected preliminary expressions of interest from PCP International Finance (Staveley`s company) and a consortium of investors led by Dr. Roger Kennedy and Wing-Fai Ng. The statement emphasized: “The board of the club and ENIC confirm that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale and ENIC has no intention to accept any such offer to acquire its interest in the club.”
Under the UK Takeover Code, both interested parties have until 12 p.m. ET on October 5 to declare whether they intend to make a formal offer for Tottenham. This requirement stems from the fact that 13% of the club`s shares, not owned by ENIC, are publicly traded. If no formal offer is made, takeover rules prohibit them from submitting a new proposal for six months.
Amanda Staveley departed Newcastle in July 2024, having played a crucial role in its acquisition by Saudi Arabia`s Public Investment Fund in 2021. Wing-Fai Ng possesses extensive experience in Asia`s financial industry.
