Travis Head, injured, discusses his World Cup comeback intentions

Travis Head, injured, discusses his World Cup comeback intentions. After fracturing his hand in South Africa, Travis Head is scheduled to play for Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023. This will be his first time back behind the bat since the tournament.

Despite suffering a fracture to his left hand during the South Africa series, the left-handed hitter was included in the 15-man World Cup squad and has recovered more quickly than anticipated.

After having his hand’s protective splint taken off late last week, Travis Head has been using the nets regularly.

He won’t be available for Australia’s fourth tournament game against Pakistan in Bengaluru, but he might be ready for the Netherlands match in Delhi on October 25.

According to Travis Head, “it’s coming along well, and probably better than we hoped,” in a interview.

“We were informed it would take at least six weeks with the splint before we could look at playing again when we decided against going with surgery, which would have meant a 10-week recovery,” he remarked.

“If that plan is to be followed, the Netherlands game will take place in less than six weeks, which is a fairly aggressive date, so everything would have to go perfectly from here to make that deadline,” he continued.

In closing, the batter said, “But we’ll just see how it goes over the next few days and I’m excited by the prospect of joining the boys over there later in the week.”

In the tournament, none of the Australian batsmen have amassed a half-century, and they have been knocked out for 199 and 177 in their two matches.

Travis Head’s comeback at the World Cup 2023 will come at opportune moment for Australia, who had lost their last four matches two of which came in this year’s competition.
