Trott thinks that Afghanistan’s surprising victory will inspire more Youngsters  to play cricket. Afghanistan halted a 14-match World Cup losing streak with the 69-run triumph, which will be remembered as one of the biggest upsets in the tournament’s history.

“The guys are playing for more than just cricket,” Trott remarked, acknowledging the importance of a victory for a country still recovering from previous earthquakes and the Taliban’s tense relations with other countries.

“The guys have a great understanding of the difficulties and struggles that some people are facing due to the natural disaster and other factors.”

“Therefore, the sort of goal that’s been achieved is if this can make people smile while also inspiring boys and girls to pick up a cricket bat or a cricket ball and start playing cricket wherever they are in Afghanistan.”

Afghanistan have only triumphed in one World Cup match before to Sunday, that being their 2015 opening victory over Scotland.

They were defeated by the hosts by 150 runs in each of their nine games during the 2019 tournament in England.

Afghanistan’s bowlers went to work, though, having amassed 284 on Sunday with to opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s explosive 80 and Ikram Alikhil’s 58.

England was bowled for 215 runs, with spinners Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan taking three wickets apiece. Only Harry Brook, with 66, displayed any genuine defiance.

After three games in the ten-nation tournament, both teams had one victory and two losses.

Trott continued, “This win is significant, certainly in the manner and by the margin as well.”

“Hopefully, this will instill a great deal of confidence in everyone, which will benefit not only this World Cup but also future competitions.”

Trott is well-versed in World Cup surprises. Despite collecting 92 runs, he was a member of the England team that was humiliated by Ireland in Bengaluru in 2011.
