Football & Cricket

The UEFA Women`s Champions League 2025-26 season marks the dawn of a new era in top-tier club football. The tournament is moving away from its traditional group stage, introducing an 18-team league phase inspired by the men`s `Swiss model.` In this phase, teams will compete against six different opponents, playing half their matches at home and half away. The league phase draw is scheduled for Friday in Nyon, Switzerland, at 6 a.m. ET, and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Golazo Network.

Here`s all the essential information regarding the upcoming draw:

Viewing Information

  • Date: Friday, September 19 | Time: 6 a.m. ET
  • Location: Nyon, Switzerland
  • Live Stream: CBS Sports Golazo Network

How the Draw Works

The draw will determine the pairings for the league phase. The 18 clubs will be allocated into three pots of six teams, with pot assignments based on club coefficient rankings established at the start of the UWCL season. Reigning champions Arsenal are designated as the top seed in Pot 1.

The draw process will involve both manual selection, where balls are physically drawn from a bowl, and automated software assistance. Three bowls will be prepared, one for each pot, each containing six balls with the names of the clubs. Each club will be drawn against two opponents from each of the three pots, playing one opponent from each pot at home and the other away.

Clubs from the same national association cannot be drawn to play against each other, but each club is permitted to play against two teams from any other association.

More Matches, More Drama

The traditional group formats will be replaced by the new league phase, featuring a single table where every team plays six matches against six distinct opponents. Teams will be ranked within this single table, adhering to standard point rules: three points for a win, one for a draw, and zero for a loss. The top four teams will directly advance to the quarterfinals; teams finishing from fifth to twelfth place will participate in a two-legged knockout playoff for the remaining quarterfinal berths. Teams ranked 13th through 18th will be eliminated from the competition.
