Valentin Rongier, the experienced midfielder (30), appears likely to depart Olympique de Marseille. With just one year remaining on his current contract, extension negotiations have reportedly stalled, and the club is seemingly encouraging a move away for the player.
Reports indicate that Rongier is seeking a significant increase in his financial terms to match the salaries of players like Geoffrey Kondogbia. Marseille is reportedly unwilling to meet this demand, leading to the current impasse.
As a result, Rongier`s representatives have reportedly been actively searching for a potential transfer for several weeks. The midfielder originally joined Marseille in 2019 from his boyhood club, FC Nantes, and was a long-serving member and former captain of the squad.
Previously, Sunderland AFC, Stade Rennais, and Como 1907 were linked with the player. However, these clubs seem to have cooled their interest, potentially due to Marseille`s reported asking price of €10 million, which was considered too high by the Premier League side. This valuation could potentially decrease as the transfer window progresses.
Despite the cooling interest from those clubs, it is understood that other teams remain highly interested in Rongier. Three additional clubs have reportedly made contact with his representatives to discuss his financial requirements, indicating continued possibilities for his departure.
