Mathieu van der Poel showcased his dominance in the second stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, claiming victory in San Gimignano after a challenging course marked by gravel sections and steep climbs, reminiscent of the Northern Classics. The Dutchman commented on his performance, stating: “Yes, I feel my legs are reactive.” The stage concluded with a thrilling three-man sprint in the rain, where Del Toro finished second, taking over as the new overall leader of the race. Italian rider Pellizzari, who secured third place, closely trails Del Toro by just 3 seconds in the general classification, keeping his ambitions for the overall title very much alive.
