Al-Duhail midfielder Marco Verratti has expressed his deep desire to play in Serie A for his boyhood club, Pescara, even if only for a brief appearance. He also revealed that the continuous stream of victories at Paris Saint-Germain eventually became `repetitive` and lost their initial excitement, ultimately influencing his decision to seek new challenges.
Despite being instrumental in Pescara`s promotion to Serie A in 2012, the Italian playmaker promptly transferred to Paris Saint-Germain a few months later. This means Verratti has paradoxically never competed in Italy`s top flight. Pescara currently plays in Serie B.
Verratti`s Enduring Dream for Pescara

Verratti, now 32 years old, elaborated on his ambition in an interview with Gazzetta: “My ultimate dream is to play even a single minute in Serie A with Pescara. Setting goals is crucial, and perhaps I can achieve this now that I hold a 50% co-presidency stake in the club. I would only do this for Pescara, as they gave me so much, and I want to repay them from the bottom of my heart.”
He further clarified his reasons for departing PSG: “I was in need of a fresh challenge and renewed motivation. In Paris, victories had become almost expected. Here, I`ve rediscovered a `childlike` joy of winning, reminiscent of my youth – pure happiness. In Paris, winning had become monotonous and repetitive.”
During his illustrious tenure at PSG, Verratti secured an impressive nine French league titles and six French Cups. He also touched upon a reporter`s query, noting that despite the suggestion that the Ligue 1 giants had finally won the Champions League without needing superstar players, he fundamentally disagreed with that premise.
Verratti on His PSG Departure

Responding to the notion of PSG`s perceived lack of `big stars`, Verratti asserted: “That`s incorrect. They absolutely have stars, and they`ve developed a formidable team with a strong collective focus. Luis Enrique`s work has been exceptional. They are poised to continue their winning streak for years.” He also took the opportunity to dispel rumors surrounding his exit: “It was rumored I left PSG because Luis Enrique desired it, which is false. I can assure you my discussion with Nasser Al Khelaifi regarding my departure took place long before Luis Enrique`s arrival. I expressed my desire for new challenges. We maintain an excellent relationship; he is a remarkable individual.”
A pivotal player in Italy`s Euro 2020 triumph, Verratti has earned 55 caps for the national team, scoring three goals. He is widely regarded as a PSG legend, having dedicated 11 seasons to the club, during which he made 416 appearances and scored 11 goals.
